The development of the story of the street vendor is well-structured, the images are consistent with the narrative, and the care of the framing and composition of the shots is evident. It's clear that there is a clear vision of what the filmmaker wants to achieve and the message they want to convey.

Student Videographer of the Year Runner-up

Noah Quezada Cal State University Long Beach

Student Still Photojournalist of the Year- Winner, sponsored by Nikon and the Past Presidents and Retired Members Scholarship Fund

Ben Hanson / California State University, Northridge

Here is what the judges said:

The first-place winner stood out over the runner-ups with consistent, high-quality photos in all categories. The photographs were well composed, including the use of unique angles and uncluttered backgrounds, helping to make the images immediately impactful upon viewing. The photo story had a nice variety of images. The photographer made dramatic photographs and told the protest story well. This Photojournalist has a good sense of what makes a strong image and will undoubtably find how to create even better photographs in the future.

Student Still Photojournalist of the Year - Runner-up

Anthony Tedesco, California State University, Northridge

Student Still Photojournalist of the Year - Runner-up

Blake Fagan, California State University, Northridge

Here is what the judges said:

Both entries were solid and showed that these Photojournalists have a good grasp on what it takes to create a good photograph, and to be a Photojournalist. Each photo story contains images that are effective in their story telling. One portfolio contained a stronger sports photo, while the other had a superior portrait category image. Continued awareness to composition and angles is going to help both photographers develop their craft even further.
